What is Kiwanis?
Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization appealing to men and women who have the desire to become personally involved in making their communities better places in which to live. As a group, these people achieve what individuals cannot do alone. Working together, Kiwanians voluntarily share the challenge of community improvement and leadership. Although Kiwanis is a service organization, enduring friendships are created through the Kiwanis spirit of fellowship that comes from a mutual effort devoted to great ends.
The Name
The name "Kiwanis" is taken from the language of a Native American tribe which lived in the area where Kiwanis was founded. The original phrase was "Nunc Keewanis", which means "self-expression" or "to make oneself known".
The Motto
The Kiwanis motto known throughout the world is "We Build". It serves to motivate each club member to take an active role in supporting their community through service.
The Kiwanis Club of Oneonta
The Kiwanis Club of Oneonta consists of men and women who meet weekly and are interested and actively participate in a vast array of community service projects that support our community. |
